World Belly Dance Day 2008 Minnesota/Wisconsin USA

World Belly Dance Day 2008 Hafla

Hi everyone!

Our World Bellydance Day Hafla was a blast! My students were nervous to dance after only six weeks of classes but they ended up having a lot of fun and getting confident about the idea of performing in front of others.

I opened the Hafla with an improvised dance to 'Hely Meli' ('Come Sway Towards Me'). We had a guest instructor, Devra, perform tribal dance for the second number. After that, it was Rachel with a solo and the trio attempting a group improvisation! Following the trio we had an open dance section where even the audience was invited to join us in the fun; we played 'fun' songs like 'I Wanna See You Bellydance' and Arabic versions of 'Rock the Casbah' and 'I Will Survive'.

When the Hafla was finished, several of us finished the day by having a late lunch at India Palace, a local restaurant with some of the best food available in our towns. We are in the borderlands and are both Minnesota and Wisconsin, separated only by part of a lake. My students are all looking forward to next year's World Bellydance Day, and hope to show you how much they all have improved!
