World Belly Dance Day 2008 Malaysia

This year, Zero Fitness Dance Studio has taken a very different approach in conducting The Harmony Malaysia First World Belly Dance Day Charity Event 2008 that brings forth the nationwide belly dance entertainment as reflected in the program on 10th & 11th of May 2008.

This was a special joint event organized by The Zero Fitness Dance Studio, with the endorsement of Penang Tourism Action Council and co-organized by Berjaya Georgetown Hotel, Guang Ming Daily, Penang Channel TV and Datin Seri Lee Ean Kee. The mission for this event is to lend a helping hand to light up the lives of the less fortune by contributing the collected fund to nonprofit organizations such as Women Center For Change Penang (WCC) - for single mothers, and Children Protection Society – for children being abused. Through this event, the Zero was able to promote the authentic belly dancing, to clear the misconception of belly dancing, to encourage team work and to cultivate the spirit and beauty of belly dancing.

As a result of teamwork and most importantly, with the thing that they are passionate about, Zero Fitness Dance Studio has made a great effort in aiding those less fortunate through the event which were inspired by World Belly Dance Day Website.

The 2 days event program included Kids Belly Dance Competition, The Harmony Hafla and Belly Dance Workshops. Among the many activities lined up in conjunction with World Belly Dance Day, The Harmony Hafla was the highlight of the event which was held at Berjaya Georgetown Hotel on 10th of May. With such prominent co-organizers support, Zero has successfully sold 530 Hafla tickets. There were 20 professional belly dancers from different states of Malaysia and also special invited performer, Badia from United State were joining this charitable organization for the first time to perform in The Harmony Hafla. With the great performances, the event managed to increase recognition and understanding about the purposes of the event and attained fabulous response from audience.

The WBDD Organizing Committee have put their hearts and soul to organize exciting, enriching and an enjoyable event which a total sum of RM 24,834.43 has been collected and also has paid to the two beneficiaries after deducting all the expenses. In addition, the event has also united all belly dancers in Malaysia.

With the success of this event, Penang Tourism Action Council has made it an annual event which to be held on second Saturday in May every year and it will be included in the calendar of the year. In view of this, a better future of belly dancing in Malaysia is foreseen with the great response of this world event.
