World Belly Dance Day 2008 Belgium Balen

Very important: The event was held in Belgium (Balen) but it was not a Belgian event. The organisation and dancers where Belgo-Dutch.
The road to may 10th was not an easy one and at certain moments the whole undertaking was jeopardized. But together we overcame our problems.
In september 2007 we raised a team to organise World Bellydanceday.
However, there was a serious disagreement and a split was the result.
I was so happy because Stella (Sitara) accepted to help me. She did a great job! She really recruited the dancers and directed the show. Not to forget her husband, Simon, who was responsible for the music. If there would be medals for World Bellydanceday, they deserve them!
Then, a month before the event, we lost our location! Without any reason the manager told me we were not welcome any longer. All the flyers and posters were allready printed an distributed. The media were informed... a disaster, we had to begin all over AGAIN. However I found a new location but it was difficult to change everything and things began to be confused for the media.
10 Days before the event, one of the key people of Nema fell very ill and went to hospital, so the link with that organisation was also severed.
BUT, on 10 may we made a succes out of it!! We raised money for the good cause (Neuro Muscular deseases) AND we received felicitations of the many dancers. They all liked that day and enjoyed themselves very much.
And...TV was there and we made it in the evening news! People in Belgium know the meaning of World Bellydanceday now.
